How it works

Three steps, whichever path you need.

Every engagement starts with a free review of your policy and the insurer's estimate, with time to answer your questions.

Free claim review

Art reviews your policy, the insurer's estimate, and any letters. He tells you plainly what the claim may be missing and whether you need an appraiser or an adjuster.

An accurate valuation

Art inspects and measures the property and builds a line-by-line estimate. When the loss calls for it, he brings in engineers, contractors, or accountants.

Settlement or award

As your appraiser, Art works toward an appraisal award, which generally becomes binding once two of the three panel members sign it. As your adjuster, he negotiates the settlement.

Two ways Art can represent you

Need someone to settle the number, or someone to run the whole claim?

Expert insurance appraiser

Art settles a dispute over the amount of loss.

Best when
Your insurer agrees the damage is covered, but its number is far below what the repair actually costs, and your policy has an appraisal clause.
What Art does
Serves as your appointed appraiser. He values the loss independently, works it through with the insurer's appraiser, and presents it to an umpire if the two can't agree.
How he's paid
Quoted in writing before he starts. Each side pays its own appraiser and usually splits the umpire's fee.
Public adjuster

Art handles your claim from start to finish.

Best when
The loss is new, the claim is stalled, or the insurer denied or underpaid it and you need a full-time advocate.
What Art does
Reads the policy, inspects and measures the property, builds a line-by-line estimate and proof of loss, and negotiates every dollar with your insurer.
How he's paid
A percentage of the settlement. Texas law caps the total at 10%, including expenses. Nothing up front.
One role per claim.

Most policies require an appraiser to be impartial or disinterested, and a public adjuster has a financial stake in the settlement. So Art takes one role on any claim, never both. On a free review he'll tell you which one fits.
